Different Types of Heavy Machinery Equipment

When you are in the business of construction or even if you are just a heavy machinery operator, knowing all about the different types of heavy machinery equipment can be extremely helpful for your career. Everyone knows that all of the construction companies rely heavily on the heavy machines which enable them to complete the construction tasks in good time and reduce the amount of human labor required to do the job. Since the heavy machines are constantly developing and evolving, it is pertinent for the construction companies to keep updating their machines and replace the old ones with newer models.

The main purposes of using heavy machines at a construction or excavation site include:

Different Types of Heavy Machinery EquipmentDigging

Different Types of Heavy Machinery EquipmentMoving earth

Different Types of Heavy Machinery EquipmentLifting heavy loads

Different Types of Heavy Machinery EquipmentCrushing stones

In order to complete all these tasks, the construction companies use different types of heavy machinery equipment which are used to perform all or some of the tasks mentioned above. If you are new to the construction business and are thinking about buying or renting heavy machines, it is important that you know what options are available in the market. This way you will only buy or rent the machines which are according to your requirements and will be needed on the construction site on a regular basis.

Some basic kinds of these machines are:

Backhoe:

It is a very important heavy machine used for both digging and lifting loads. This machine is basically a combination of two other heavy machines; the simple bulldozer and the normally used digger. The backhoe has a bucket attached to its arm which is used for digging and lifting lose earth. The bucket and the arm of a backhoe are attached to a tractor which helps in moving the machine from one place to another. A backhoe is most commonly in excavations, mining and generally in the construction industry. As with all the other heavy equipment, this is an expensive machine which is normally owned by large construction companies.

Crane:

Almost everyone who has had even a little experience with the construction business is well aware of the importance of crane which is primarily used for moving heavy loads. There are many different kinds and sizes of a crane and each crane serves a different and unique purpose on a construction site. The crane is a very large machine which has a hook attached to its base. When you need to lift huge loads at a construction site, you attach the load securely to the hook and the long arm of the machine, shaped like the neck of a crane bird, carries the load from one place to another.

Stump grinder:

A stump grinder is a very important piece of machinery as it helps in cutting down trees by grinding the stumps. This machine is mostly used when a construction company is clearing a site to make a building. The stump grinder consists of a rotating disk which has blades attached to it like teeth, useful in chipping away at the wood. This machine differs in sizes and can be as huge as a truck or as small as a lawn mower.

Bulldozers:

Out of all the types of heavy machinery equipment, the bulldozer is considered as the most powerful and useful instrument for construction companies. The bulldozer mainly consists of a truck which is the main body and a large blade plate attached at the front end. This blade plate is used to carry huge loads of loose soil, stones and rubble. The back end of a bulldozer consists of a claw like hand which is useful in loosening hard earth or heaps of stones. Once the material has become loose, the blade plate sweeps it up and transports it to another location.

Trencher:

The trencher is an extremely powerful cutting machine that is used in the construction industry to dig trenches, which are needed to lay cable or pipes, and for installation of a drainage system. The trencher also varies in size, but no matter how small it is in size, it is still a dangerous machine that needs to be handled with utmost precautions. The trencher consists of a large circular blade in the front which has sharp teeth in it that help with cutting hard surfaces. Another type of trencher is the chainsaw trencher, which has a long blade with a chain around it which helps it in moving state.

Excavators:

Excavators are the most used heavy machines in the construction business. When you are digging and clearing a site for construction, an excavator can help a lot in removing the debris with speed and accuracy. An excavator consists of three main parts which are: a bucket, a boom and a cab. All three parts are fixed on a rotating platform from which the controls are operated. The main body of the excavator sits on an undercarriage which has wheels or tracks which enable the machine to move from one place to another. The bucket part of the excavator is used to move the debris and loose earth and stones from one place to the other. There are a lot of different kinds of excavators in the market and you can choose the one that suits your work demands but one thing you need to keep in mind is that an excavator is an expensive machine.

Forklift:

A forklift is one of the most widely used pieces of equipment in the construction and excavation industry. It is a very powerful machine which is used to lift materials and transport them to different locations. It is of different shapes and sizes as it is customized to be more productive in different scenarios. A forklift might not be as expensive as a crane but it is still a huge investment.

All of the different types of heavy machinery equipmentdiscussed in this article are expensive machines and when you are starting a construction business, you need to get a hold of most of them. The best approach is to evaluate your needs first and then make a list of the machines you need. If purchasing all these machines is too expensive for you, it is always best to get rental equipment.
