Heavy Machine Operators & Their Uses

Heavy Machine Operators Need To Be Alert At All Times.

Heavy machine operators receive training either by formal training through an apprenticeship program or on the job training or a program that they pay for. Because the weather affects machinery and therefore work can sometimes not be done, wages can be cut if work is not done.

Earth, construction materials and other such items are moved by construction machinery, these machines are obviously operated by construction equipment operators. These machines can be used at mines and construction sites. Machinery is used to grade and clear the roads to get it ready for road construction and building buildings and bridges.

Trenches are dug with this machinery and repairs are done to sewers and other such utility services. Off shore, oil rigs are another reason these machines are needed.

The machine operators need to be able to make minor repairs and adjustments to the machinery. Technology has advanced these machines and some even have GS (Global Positioning System) to assist with grading and leveling functions.

The machine operators have a variety of functions and positions. There are: operating engineers, pile driver operators, paving and surfacing operators and many more different kinds of operators.

Heavy Machine Operators Excavation and loading machines are equipped with buckets, scoops and shovels. These dig up gravel, sand, earth and other such material and then load it onto conveyors and or trucks.
Heavy Machine Operators School Heavy machine operators also operate and drive bulldozers, trench excavators. Industrial trucks and tractors that have forklifts and or booms for lifting purposes. They can also pull trailers with the hitches that are attached to them.
Heavy Machine Operators Job Power equipment such as pumps and air compressors are other types of machinery that is operated usually at construction sites.

Then there are operators that operate special machinery that is for the purpose of spreading and leveling concrete and asphalt for roadways and other kinds of structures. The temperature of the asphalt needs to be regulated and this is done via valves that are turned to do this regulating. The machine has to distribute the paving substance smoothly and evenly so that it is void free.

Asphalt must flow constantly into the hopper. Operators that work with concrete pavers have to control the levers and work with hand wheels so that wet concrete is spread and leveled in forms. The operators have to pay careful attention to the surface to identify any low spots that many need concrete added to them. Other attachments are then utilized to smooth out the concrete surface. A curing compound is then sprayed onto the surface.

Tamping machines are used to see that the earth is compacted and for fillers for the roadbeds. Machines are available with hammers that are interchangeable to break and cut up the old paving and then to drive the guardrail posts into the ground.

Piles are driven into the ground by large machines that are operated by pile driver operators. These machines are mounted on barges, cranes or skids for this purpose. There are pile driver operators that also work offshore on oilrigs. Heavy machine operators need to be versatile and be alert at all times, as these machines can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
