The US Army is offering rewarding job opportunities for heavy equipment operators. But in order to qualify, they must have experience and proper training on operating machines that are often used by the armed forces.

Duties of Army Heavy Equipment Operator

The duties of a heavy equipment operator working in the army are to take control and operate various forms of machine and equipment including wheeled tractors, scoop loaders, motorized graders, and self-propelled scrapers.

Anyone who is interested to work for the US army should be knowledgeable in operating most if not all of these machines. Aside from that, these operators are also in charge of maintaining these heavy machines. They should be able to fix and repair mechanical problems to ensure that the equipment is safe to use and efficient in terms of performance.

Another important role of an army heavy equipment operator is to interpret information produced by grade stakes. These are a common tool that is used in construction works for the purpose of taking an elevation reference. Heavy machine operators working for the army are also tasked to clear grubs and strips, carry and fill materials to the loaders, operate the machine to carry these materials to another location, dig holes, level the ground, remove soil, and do all other kinds of similar stuff. From time to time, an army heavy equipment operator will be asked to dig holes, level the soil, load and unload items, lift and move heavy materials like steel, sand, gravel, and the like. He may also be tasked to transport such materials to another place using not an ordinary truck or vehicle but a tractor or a wheeler. Machine operators may also be required to repair the machines and provide assistance during missions, engineering works, and even in combat missions.

Qualifications of Heavy Equipment Operator in US Army

The requirements to become an army heavy equipment operator are categorized into three aspects: physical, training and experience, and mental qualifications. The nature of work of machine operators who will be assigned in the US army requires a lot of physical and mental aptitude. They would be working every day with machines, lifting this and moving that and doing all the tasks mentioned. So basically, a heavy equipment operator in the army must be physically fit and able to perform his duties and responsibilities. Applicants should be in good health, good height and good body physique to qualify for the position. But other than the physical qualifications, they should also have experience and proper training before attempting to apply as heavy machine operators in the US army. First of all, an aspiring operator should have a license to operate. They should also present a commercial license to drive. Once the basic requirements have been presented, the applicant should take the army heavy equipment operator examination and should get a minimum score of 90 in the area of aptitude.

Being an army heavy equipment operator is not an easy job but the pay is very rewarding. They actually receive the same benefits and compensation provided to regular soldiers.
